Case Study
Location: King Power Stadium, Filbert Wy, Leicester
Property: Large place assembly
Industry: Industrial
Contract Awarded to: RiskFire
Type of Contract: Fire Doors (S)
Project Duration: 2-weeks
Project Overview & Scope
RiskFire was appointed as a specialist subcontractor to undertake a comprehensive fire door survey and fire stopping survey for Leicester City Football Club across two live sites: the main stadium and the training ground. The scope of works focused on assessing the condition, compliance, and performance of approximately 450 fire doors, alongside the inspection of fire stopping to service penetrations within walls and floors. The surveys were required to support ongoing fire safety compliance within a large place of assembly and elite sports environment.
Project Controls & Documentation Provided
The surveys were delivered in line with a strict programme to accommodate live site constraints, including training schedules, match days, and access to high-level corporate areas. A detailed and robust survey package was produced and issued to the client, providing clear, auditable records of fire door and fire stopping conditions across both sites.
Challenges & Solutions
The project presented several logistical challenges due to the requirement to operate across two live sites simultaneously, both of which remained fully operational throughout the survey period. The large volume of fire doors, totaling approximately 450, required careful planning to ensure full coverage within a limited timeframe. Additional complexity arose from the need to inspect high-level corporate areas while avoiding disruption to training sessions and match-day operations. RiskFire addressed these challenges through the development of a tailored survey programme that coordinated access times across both the stadium and training ground. Survey works were carefully sequenced to align with operational schedules, ensuring minimal disruption to site activities. Inspections of walls, floors, and service penetrations were carried out systematically alongside the fire door surveys, allowing a comprehensive assessment of compartmentation to be completed efficiently and accurately.
Outcome & Outputs Achieved
The project was delivered on schedule and within budget, with a comprehensive and clearly structured survey package provided to the client. The documentation supplied a detailed overview of fire door compliance and fire stopping conditions across both sites, supporting informed decision-making and future remediation planning. RiskFire’s ability to deliver detailed surveys within a live, high-profile sports environment demonstrated its capability to operate effectively within large places of assembly while maintaining programme and operational integrity.
