Our Passive Fire

Protection Services

What Are Passive Fire Protection Services?

Passive fire protection is the built-in system of materials, products, and construction methods that slow or prevent the spread of fire and smoke through a building without requiring any action to activate.

Unlike active systems such as sprinklers or alarms, passive fire protection works automatically by containing fire within a compartment, protecting escape routes, and buying time for evacuation and emergency response.

As passive fire protection contractors, RiskFire installs, inspects, and maintains these systems across all building types.

Who We Work With

The Building Safety Act 2022 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 place clear obligations on building owners, landlords, and those responsible for managing premises.

RiskFire are one of the most reputable passive fire protection companies in the UK, working with property developers, housing associations, local authorities, facilities management companies, NHS trusts, schools and universities, hotel groups, and private landlords.

Our passive fire protection services are scalable, from a single building assessment to an ongoing programme across a large portfolio. All work is recorded through Onetrace, giving clients full traceability across every site.

Passive Fire Protection FAQs

  • What is passive fire protection and why do I need it?

Passive fire protection refers to the materials and construction methods built into a building to slow or stop the spread of fire and smoke.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Building Safety Act 2022, building owners and responsible persons are legally required to ensure adequate passive fire protection is in place.

  • Are your passive fire protection contractors certified?

Yes. All of RiskFire’s passive fire protection contractors and installers hold the relevant qualifications and accreditations.

We are a BAFE-accredited company and all products are tested and approved to current UK fire safety standards.

  • Do your passive fire protection installers cover nationwide?

Yes. RiskFire operates across the whole of the UK including Greater London, the Midlands, the North, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands.

  • What is the Golden Thread and how does RiskFire support it?

The Golden Thread refers to the requirement under the Building Safety Act 2022 for building owners and duty holders to create and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all fire safety works carried out on a building.

RiskFire supports the Golden Thread through Onetrace, our cloud-based platform, which records all installation details, photographic evidence, product information, and installer data for every job and giving clients a complete, auditable compliance record.

  • What is Onetrace and how does it benefit clients?

Onetrace is a comprehensive cloud-based platform built specifically for the fire protection industry.

It enables our teams to capture, monitor, and report on all fire-related works in one system, including custom forms, drawing mark-up, real-time job progress, and offline capability. For clients, it provides full traceability and transparency across surveys, installations, and remedial works.

  • How quickly are fires spreading in modern buildings compared to older ones?

Research indicates fires in modern structures can spread five to ten times faster than in older buildings, due to the increased use of combustible materials in contemporary construction.

This makes effective passive fire protection more critical than ever, particularly for service penetrations, cavity barriers, and fire-resisting compartmentation.

  • Do you work with housing associations and social housing providers?

Yes. Social housing is one of our core sectors. We work with housing associations, local authorities, and registered providers to deliver Fire Risk Assessments, fire stopping programmes, fire door inspections, and maintenance across residential blocks and estates.

  • What sectors does RiskFire’s cover?

We provide Passive Fire Protection Services across a wide range of sectors including student accommodation, residential apartments and flat entries, new build developments, hotels and leisure, social housing, healthcare and NHS, education, facilities management, and office and commercial premises. Each sector carries its own regulatory requirements and we tailor our approach accordingly.
